      Based on a true story.

There I was, hauling crap from the arse-end of the galaxy to some poor farmers who clearly can’t generate enough crap on their own.

I was tired, jump-mad, and in need of a bath.

But I was in Alliance space, a bath can wait.

“Hey buddy”, this guy says from across the bar, “Nice ‘conda – wha aargh!” he started, his voice cut short from a gunshot to the neck.

      Sod off, I’m drinking here.

“He’ll live”, I say to the bartender

“Damn”, he replies, “We’ve been trying to get rid of him”.

“Tell you what though, Commander, here’s a free drink”.

As the patron is dragged out, I notice a data card left on the floor.

I know I shouldn’t but I pick it up anyway.

      Yep, it’s a tip-off.

“Greetings, blah blah, blah, go here, blah blah, ship wreck, blah blah”.

I leave, head back towards the hangar, and my ship, Magellan.

We’re in an Alliance port, and I’m not staying.

A few days later, I decide on a whim to have a look at that tip off.
Some chatter I’d picked up suggests that they can be lucrative.

And I really can’t see myself making another trip out for crap anytime soon.

I find the system, jump in and run a scan.

The target planet is 145K LS from the main star.

Time for a beer or two.

Check the co-ordinates; yep, I know where I’m headed.

I come in low, and drop down 4.5 klicks from the target zone, behind a small series of hills.

No point alerting anybody who might be watching.

Time to take the SRV out for a bit.

Reminds me of dune-bugging when I was a kid.

After an hour, I realise that I’ve been circling the wreck co-ords, and haven’t seen a thing.

I recall my ship, and return to the con.

Engines engaged, check the co-ords, I should be on top of this damn wreck.

Message incoming “Your cargo is mine”

      Oh, I see now.

      The dance doesn’t last long.

      They never do.

I leave the Python smouldering on the ground for a few moments before I offload another volley into its exposed core.

      Damn, I need a drink.
